A blistering asteroid laced with the metal of an old planet, Belladonna. This floating island received an inhospitable welcome, pitiable but only for a moment because this rock rocks. It confirms what many already knew: Among The Living is the living testatment of the band’s true worth. Recorded in 1991 and (in a radio appearance) 1992, as a skeletal Belladonna throws the audience a bodyfull of bones, from “I Am The Law” to “Keep It In The Family.” Charlie Benante explodes, Public Enemy makes a cameo, and immunity is impossible. Fans will eat it all up: “Metal Thrashing Mad,” “Caught In A Mosh,” “In My World.” Great stuff that shows the density of this dark semi-planet. It really makes you hunger for a Belladonna reunion. Label Island was smoking resin at this stage, but it’s potent stuff all the same. Makes me wish I’d seen them live, since they kick some major metal heinie. Not to be ignored if Belladonna is your drug of choice, though of course you need to own Among The Living and Persistence of Time first. We’ll call it KM.09 because it’s no mere kash moshine. It’s a tank, an engine of destruction, so stand in front of it and embrace it like you would Sound of White Noise. You won’t be sorry.
