K RONOMYTH 6.3: ROAMIN’ GODS. The B-52’s weren’t rebuilt in one day, but “Roam” and “Love Shack” made it seem that way. No one, not even the lovable B-52s, deserved production this good. Nile Rodgers and Don Was were two of the best in the business, and Cosmic Thing became a competition for who could make the Bees sound better. I’d call it a tie this time. “Roam” got more of the buzz, here in an edited version that still includes the airy opening. “Bushfire” brings Fred back into the front and gives a better indication of what Nile and Don could have done with the Bs last two albums. The usual remixes (extended, instrumental) of “Roam” were made available on 12-inches and CD singles.
