BILL WARD Discography

Black Sabbath's drummer. That's usually as far as the discussion gets. I've yet to hear him mentioned alongside the great rock drummers from the '70s: Neil Peart, Bill Bruford, John Bonham, Keith Moon, Ginger Baker, etc. I can't tell you why. Bill Ward is a great rock drummer, with a distinctive style that could be viewed as a less-exuberant Keith Moon (just listen to Paranoid if you don't believe me). I suspect his slighting comes from his association with Sabbath, none of whom were regarded as superlative players. In fact, as the band progressed, they seemed to discount Ward's playing too, relegating him to the lower regions of the mix. Ward has released several solo albums since leaving Sabbath in the early '80s. He rejoined the band briefly in the late '90s for the Reunion album.
