I ndicative of the deflated Heartbeat, “Why Can’t I Have You” doesn’t have the oomph that a good Cars single should. Instead, the synthesizers and slow tempo seem like holdovers from Beatitude’s listless bounty. (As opposed to those bounties that hop all over the place, I’m sure.) The US single featured the nonalbum “Breakaway” on the B side, which is as lame as you’d expect a song that didn’t make the original cut of Heartbeat City to be.
