I ’d long wondered why Cheap Trick didn’t wipe off the early frost by returning to the green power pop fields of their youth. Be careful what you wish for. “Tonight It’s You” is a frankenstein’s monster of bits from their bloomin’ youth, and it’s more than a little creepy. Producer Jack Douglas helps the boys turn a few half-baked ideas into a pushy power ballad, although the sentiment behind it (“All I need is someone to love / And tonight it’s you”) is nothing if not Cheap. The B-as-in-bad side is “Wild Wild Women,” perhaps as close as these Dream Police have come to issuing Warrant.
