It was Christopher Franke and Edgar Froese who anchored the Tangerine Dream lineup through the celebrated, experimental '70s and into the productive '80s. Franke left the band before embarking on a solo career as a new age and film composer. It's been a different chapter than the dark corridors of Dream, split between serviceable soundtracks (including the Babylon 5 series) and successful new age releases (Pacific Coast Highway, The London Concert, The Celestine Prophecy: A Musical Voyage). Travelling between Germany (where he records with his Berlin Symphonic Film Orchestra) and Los Angeles, Franke has arrived at a kind of California Dream that has little of the old progressive spirit in it but should interest fans of Windham Hill.
