The Clash
The Pistols may have fired the first shot in the punk revolution, but it was The Clash who were destined to become the new kings of England. Mick Jones and Joe Strummer were nothing less than the Lennon/McCartney of the punk generation. From 1977 to 1982, the band seemed tailor-made to legend, rapidly evolving with a restless genius as if they were living on borrowed time. Since then, it's been mostly a matter of killing time; Combat Rock wasn't a comma but a period. Still, what an amazing statement The Clash were.
