M ercy, that’s an ugly, sallow yellow on the early Atco singles. Fortunately, the music contains all the color one could want: a rainbow of psychedelic blues exploding in the ears (but the rainbow has a beard). “Sunshine of Your Love” appears here in an edited form; it sounds like they just cut the guitar solo out from the middle. “SWABLR” remains intact, inscrutable and beautiful. Although you could argue it was a back-to-back hit to begin with, Old Gold reissued the single in the ‘80s with “Anyone For Tennis” as its doubles partner, proving that some things are just impossible to improve upon. If you're interested in these sort of things, the original Atco single does list the artist as "The Cream." The nerve.
