Crosby, Stills, Nash and (sometimes) Young were the musical equivalent of the planets aligning. It didn't happen often, but when it did, momentous things happened. They're often credited with being the first "supergroup," formed as they were from the better parts of Buffalo Springfield, The Byrds and The Hollies. Each member wrote songs, retaining their distinctive identities while converging for otherworldy harmonies that transcended the sum of their substantial parts. Over the years, the core trio have roused themselves from sleepy solo careers to release new works that prove there's strength in numbers. Although CSN isn't regarded as a progressive rock band, their influence can be found in everyone from Barclay James Harvest to Yes.
