P rior to arriving at Station To Station, Bowie released this fitting follow-up to “Fame.” The B side was an album track from his last record, “Can You Hear Me,” that nobody needed to hear twice. The single version of “Golden Years” is slightly different than the album version: it features a half-minute fadeout to the elpee’s full-minute fadeout. For this, it’s sometimes referred to as the “single edit,” and marks one of the few times I can recall a single being edited months before the full version was even released on record. There’s a little more about this song on Songfacts.
