L et’s not and say we did. When this came out, I was not amused. Three years of trifles, piffle and product and this was the light at the end of the tunnel? And the B side was the monotone overture to the flat film, Cat People, that had already been peddled in eighty-two. Of course, looking back, there’s nothing wrong with either song. In fact, they’re markedly better than the music that followed, proving that sometimes we don’t know what we have until we lose it. The A side is substantially shorter than the elpee track (more than three minutes shorter), which I presume comes at the cost of some guitar soloing. Honestly, Bowie has contributed relatively little to the guitar solo canon. “Boys Keep Swinging,” “Fashion” and “Heroes” come to mind, but that’s about it.
