W arner Brothers actually whipped out “Girl U Want” first from Freedom of Choice. It didn’t chart, but I don’t remember seeing a video for it either. With better promotion, this could have easily cracked the US Top 100 (so could a lot of Devo songs). Like “Be Stiff” and “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” before it, the band sabotages the song early on by introducing a counter rhythm, which may have been one reason why radio stations shied away from it. However, therein lies the song’s charm. The B side in the US was “Mr. B’s Ballroom” from Freedom, in the UK it was the nonalbum “Turn Around,” which appeared on the flip side of “Whip It” in the US.
