Not prog proper I suppose, but their proximity to the entrance of prog earns The Doors a special mention. The band could certainly invoke a transportative chaos: "The End," "When The Music's Over." Scary, intense stuff, that. They burned at a cooler flame on popular hits like "Light My Fire," "Hello I Love You" and "Love Me Two Times;" turned it up a notch on scorchers like "L.A. Woman," "Roadhouse Blues" and "Break On Through (To The Other Side);" spoke in spectral colors on "Strange Days" and "Riders on the Storm." Morrison (you may have heard) passed away in 1971; it's been nonsense ever since. Still it shouldn't detract from The Doors' achievement, which forms a load-bearing pillar in the temple of the "sex, drugs and rock & roll" mythology.
