Downy Mildew
A loose association with R.E.M. and 10,000 Maniacs gives you some insight into their audience, though the band was more airy than either, eventually ending up on an offshoot of the Windham Hill label. Downy Mildew released four proper albums before folding, ending on a high note with Slow Sky. Their music belongs with the better alternative folk-rock of the 90s, buoyed by the lovely voice of Jenny Homer and a sometimes daring sense of songcraft.
