Foreigner
The presence of Crimsonite Ian McDonald earned them an honorary green card in my book, which I promptly revoked after hearing "Hot Blooded." With time it became clear that they were a hard rock band, though the subsequent arrival of Asia blurred the distinction between the two musical genres (as had Uriah Heep's "crossing over" in the '70s). Written mostly by Mick Jones and Lou Gramm, the band's multiplatinum debut was an instant classic, featuring "Feels Like The First Time" and "Cold As Ice." Double Vision dumbed it down some, and by Head Games they were in the toilet. The band released 4 as a quartet, which introduced the first of several successful power ballads, "I Want To Know What Love Is." By the release of 1994's Mr. Moonlight, only Gramm and Jones remained from the original lineup. There's also a boatload of discographical info at Inside Information: The Foreigner Files.
