T his marked a shift in strategy for Atlantic because they released the ballad as the advance single from Agent Provocateur. “Waiting for a Girl Like You,” their first big ballad, charted better than the rockers from 4. Some bean counter in a business suit noticed and, voila, Foreigner was now a ballad band. So if someone asks you when Foreigner became a bunch of weenie balladeers, you can answer with some authority: 1984. The B side is a nonalbum instrumental that sounds like it skidded off the soundtrack of Miami Vice. Incidentally, the single refers to the A side as the edit version, but in fact it’s identical to the 4:58 version found on the elpee. (Thanks again for the stopwatch, Jim.)
