Galactic Cowboys
Though Seattle gets all the credit, Texas produced a number of great metal bands including Butthole Surfers, Pantera and Galactic Cowboys. Similar in style to King's X (who moved to Houston from Missouri and became friends of the band), Galactic Cowboys fused crunching metal with pop melodies and rich harmonies. Despite some minor buzz in the '90s, they Cowboys never caught on the way they should have. They weren't as strange as the Surfers or as angry as Pantera, and maybe the world wasn't ready for an ubermetal band with a sense of humor and a sense of melody. If you enjoy King's X, however, you really have to check out Galactic Cowboys.
