C ould’ve called the album Midas Touch. “Land of Confusion” was the fourth single from Invisible Touch and, conserving its bullets like the two before, featured a nonalbum track on the B side, “Feeding The Fire.” It’s the best of the three Touch-backs, probably written by Tony Banks and certainly better than the songs on Soundtracks. I took a stab at transcribing the lyrics myself, but somehow The (Data) Bank of the Dancing Aliens did a knifer job. (I’m referring to those ad-revenue-supported online databases of lyrics that are more public nuisance than public service. I mean, who wakes up the morning and says “Honey, I think I’ve found a way to combine my love for rock & roll with low mortgage rates.” Or whatever that would be in Moldovan.) Anyway back to the music, and then over it for the music video, which won a Grammy for Best Concept Music Video in 1988. Always thought it was over the top, not that I liked any of the Genesis videos. However, I am fascinated by the effect that music videos had on chart positions and sales. And string. That also.
