P aperlate was the single from the live/studio hybrid Three Sides Live. Both sides of the single are studio tracks from the fourth, non-live side of the double album. (In the UK, a third studio track from the same side, “Me And Virgil,” was added and billed as 3 X 3.) Featuring a peppy horn section, “Paperlate” was in line with recent hits from Genesis and Phil Collins (“No Reply At All,” the re-worked “Behind The Lines”). “You Might Recall” is a lament of lost love tucked into a pleasant bed of gauzy guitars that recalls Mike Rutherford’s earlier contributions (“Alone Tonight,” “Say It’s Alright Joe”). I’ve always enjoyed both songs; if you want to beg out of buying the whole live enchilada, better “Paperlate” than never hearing any of it. And if the title to “Paperlate” sounds hauntingly familiar, give yourself a gold star; the words first appeared in the Genesis song, “Dancing With The Moonlit Knight.”
