A fter a pair of triple-elpee releases, George wisely took some time off before releasing his next album. The advance single, “Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth),” put him right back on top again. It remains one of his more popular songs, a fine companion to “My Sweet Lord.” The B side is a nonalbum entry, “Miss O’Dell,” that would seem to have a little fun with the post-Dylan political folk scene. George had a sly sense of humor but a natural affinity for country music, so he puts the two together here for an anti-protest song that worries about nothing more than why a woman won’t return his call. I don’t recall having seen this song on any of George’s official releases, so it’s only a (short) matter of time before it gets tacked onto an expanded reissue or boxed set. According to Tim Neely's price guide, the 2:30 run time on "Miss O'Dell" is an error that was corrected to read 2:20 (neither version appears collectable).
