It was a dual-guitar attack many had dreamed about--Yes' Steve Howe alongside Genesis' Steve Hackett--but I don't think anyone's dream had Max Bacon singing in it or Geoff Downes producing it. GTR was obviously meant to cash in on the post-Asia supergroup landscape, except that Asia had pretty much "nuked the place for morbid" with Alpha and Astra, so few were left to see the planets align this time. Howe and Hackett quickly ended the experiment, returning to solo work and leaving the true potential of this talented tagteam to the imagination.
