Hugh Hopper
The original bass in the Soft Machine, and then a hughman being both himself and halfing an interesting time as Hughscore, Musha, Humi, et cetera. Hopper has never strayed far from the machine manual on the one hand, often fusing with Elton Dean, while on the other hand pursuing avant-garde sound experiments. (The discography below includes all manner of offshoots, including Soft Head, Soft Heap and Short Wave.) An interesting character in the kingdom of progdom, hugh never know what he'll do next.
