John David Souther
Another one of those byrded byrd types who knows the importance of location, location, location, having shared an apartment with Glenn Frey and a building with Jackson Browne. Souther and Frey formed a duo, Longbranch Pennywhistle (why they didn't call it Souther Frey I'll never know), and released one album. Big things happened for both after, when Asylum owner David Geffen signed the Eagles and Souther as a solo artist. Eagles soared, Souther flew under the radar, and so Geffen teamed him with Chris Hillman and Richie Furay for two albums. He returned to a solo career in 1976, scoring his biggest hit with 1979's You're Only Lonely. His biggest success, however, has come as an occasional collaborator with the Eagles, Linda Ronstadt and James Taylor. In 2008, he released his first new album in more than two decades, If The World Was You.
