K ronomyth 13.0: JETHRO TWO. I know, didn’t they just release a greatest hits album last year? Repeat is the companion disc to M.U., hot on its heels, which explains the cool reception it received from most fans. Honestly, it’s the more interesting companion: “Minstrel in the Gallery,” “Warchild,” “Cross-Eyed Mary,” “Too Old to Rock n’ Roll.” And Tull fans couldn’t reasonably live without “Glory Row,” which truly did belong among their best. Repeat follows the format set forward by M.U., which as I’ve probably mentioned before was the very model of a great greatest hits collection. Repeat digs deeper by necessity, now including a track each from Minstrel and TOTRNR, beloved favorites from the past (“A New Day Yesterday,” “To Cry You A Song”), two more edits from the reluctant Brick and Play. In the early 80s, Chrysalis combined M.U. and Repeat into a single package; should someone at Chrysalis channel the Christmas spirit long enough to release them on a single CD, you’d have a magnificent introduction to the best of Tull. Instead, the 21st century saw the release of The Very Best of Jethro Tull, a 20-track collection not fit to hold M.U./Repeat’s codpiece. There’s also a review of Repeat on All Music Guide, although I would tell you that two opinions from the same person is a bit much. If, however, the temptation to click on a link is too strong, let me suggest The Jethro Tull Archive, which has a tun of discographical info and numerous photos of international releases.
