John Patitucci
An amazing bass player who did some session work in the '80s before joining Chick Corea's Elektric (and later Akoustic) Band. An eponymous debut (produced by Corea and featuring fellow Band-mate Dave Weckl) topped the jazz charts and a star was born. Whether playing a 6-string bass like a lead guitar or bowing an acoustic bass, Patitucci's unconventional approach to the instrument has fueled a successful solo career as a smooth fusion artist. In the mid-90s, he switched from GRP to the Concord Jazz label, dropping from the Jazz Top 20 but also exploring new styles like Brazilian music.
