Anyone who slogged through Greg Lake's debut may be surprised to find Wetton's Caught in the Crossfire is actually pretty catchy. The mix of songs suggests the road behind (U.K.) and the road ahead (Asia), with a number of memorable moments. Prog fans will enjoy the homage to Hawkwind paid on "Get What You Want," and if "I'll Be There" sounds like a certain song by The Monkees, well... cheer up sleepy Jean, it gets better. Martin Barre slips in a few smart cameos, his guitar-playing as pungent as ever, but it's largely Wetton's show. Obviously, he's most comfortable writing songs on the bass, yet even songs that should have been throw-aways (like "Get Away") turn out pretty good. There's a little of everything on here, and fans of his work with Asia or U.K. are bound to like some of it. Read the review at All Music Guide.
