T he first and only single from Jon Anderson’s Christmas album, 3 Ships. The A side, “Easier Said Than Done,” suffers from multitracked vocals and mechanical synthesizers -- just the kind of unfortunate setting you’d expect from pairing Roy Thomas Baker with the Yes vocalist. The song -- credited to, I kid you not, Van Gelis on the promotional 12-inch -- was probably conceived as something more organic, a taste of which is given at the song’s close. There were apparently two different B sides that were used, “Day of Days” and “Save All Your Love.” The promotional 12-inch features the former, and it’s much more in line with what Jon’s fans would expect for holiday fare. The setting is still synthetic, but the chorus is simply too good to hold down; it’s not likely to become a Christmas classic anytime soon, but it does give his voice the space it needs to soar. Since both tracks are identical to the elpee versions, the 12-inch is not deemed a collectible.
