Meet Mott. Their story is a glammy tale of rock rags to golden riches, written under the auspices of Guy Stevens and, later, David Bowie. At the center of the web stood singer/songwriter Ian Hunter; around him a colorful cast that included Overend Watts, Dale Griffin, Mick Ralphs, Ariel Bender and Morgan Fisher. Nowadays, Mott is mostly remembered for songs like "All The Young Dudes" (written by Bowie) and "All The Way From Memphis," but if you're really curious as to what the hoopla was all about, listen to the albums. Think Bowie with a thicker English accent.
