I already own Us, so the elpee version of “Digging In The Dirt” is no surprise. The instrumental version pumps up the beat, strips away some of the sugarcoating, and serves as an interesting remix that’ll have you digging that crazy beat. “Quiet Steam” (which served as the 7-inch B side) is just what its name implies: a hushed version of “Steam” that plays like a dark confessional. The nonalbum Bashi-Bazouk is wild: an electronic nightmare of evil hatched in a digital jungle. If you enjoyed the exotic mixes of Us, the CD single is full of surprises and well worth unearthing. Won a Grammy for Best Short-Form Video in 1993.
