" Don’t Lose My Number” seemed like liberal lyrical borrowing from Steely Dan’s “Rikki Don’t Lose My Number,” but enough time had passed that few held it against Phil. (It didn’t hurt that Phil’s song was pretty catchy in its own right.) The flip side provided fans with a second opportunity to own “We Said Hello Goodbye,” which was originally available only on the CD versions of his latest release, No Jacket Required. (Since marketing ploys like this were designed to help phase out vinyl, I’ve never been a big fan of bonus tracks; ironically, CD bonus tracks are now being used to phase out the original CDs themselves.) It’s a good flip side, with hints of Elton John (the piano is the prominent instrument) and Genesis’ “Your Own Special Way.” The 12-inch extended version was a remix that added about two minutes to the original.
