Progrography

The Psychedelic Furs
The second wave of punk rockers proved poor stewards of counterculture, stalwart insofar as it served their salability. Add to this ignominious rank the Furs (sorry). Their first album evoked John Lydon (nee Rotten) in Richard Butler's deadpan drawl, their second was a revelation ("Pretty In Pink," "Dumb Waiters") and actually penetrated the US Top 100. The albums that followed (Forever Now, Mirror Moves) inched up the charts, culminating in the Top 40 Midnight To Midnight. Apres ca, the inevitable decline as stylemongers moved on and punks who had poked them with a stick some time ago didn't return.
