S antana’s first Top 10 single, “Evil Ways” took something old (the good-love-gone-bad song popularized by the R&B of the early ‘60s) and made it something new by interpolating it with their own unique psychedelic vision. The result is sort of a wolf in sheep’s clothing, similar to Frank Zappa’s more commercial music from the same period. The B side is “Waiting,” an instrumental track that continues to cast Gregg Rolie’s organ as the dominant instrument, though it’s a little colorless as Santana jams go.
