Siouxsie And The Banshees
Before there was Black Francis, there was Black Isis: Siouxsie Sioux as the high drow priestess of punkadelia. Born out of the early punk scene (Sid Vicious was their original drummer), Siouxsie and the Banshees soon became one of the most articulate proponents of the goth/punk movement. Like contemporaries The Cure, Echo & The Bunnymen and even U2, the band was able to tap into something primal and otherworldly that likely originated with The Doors but had evolved into something leaner and sharper since the 70s. Vastly underappreciated in the US, Siouxsie and the Banshees belong in any shortlist of the 80s most influential and exciting artists.
