I always took this song to be an analogy for a six-month tour on the road, perhaps because it retains so much personal conviction and warmth after all the fussed-over touches. On the elpee (Time And Tide), this was introduced by a short, eerie prelude from Eddie Rayner (“Pioneer”) and featured a wistful epilogue at the end. The single version removed the two, cutting “Six Months” down to three minutes and change. The Canadian B side features the song in its original form, an unusual tack to take for a commercially available single (although not as strange as those Traffic singles that used to split the song into two parts).
