I ’m surprised they didn’t catch static for that “funked up muzak” line. This theme to the film FM remains one of the more collectible Dan tracks because it didn’t appear on a proper Steely Dan record until 1982’s Gold. Musically, it’s always struck me as a cross between “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number” (in the intro mostly) and “Josie.” The B side is an instrumental reprise that features gratuitous sax; in fact, it sounds like the original backing tracks with a new sax track on top of them. I know, you weren’t even aware the reprise existed and, trust me, you don’t care.
