T he blue creeper of the bunch, slipping slowly but quietly into the fringes of radio before being pruned back. It’s purportedly about time travel. Oh yeah. You see, the platform is really a time travel platform, and when Fagen sings “I plan to find the time,” he’s talking about finding the time span when Napoleon was alive. I don’t know why anyone expected a straight answer about a song called “Pretzel Logic.” As any Dan fan will tell you, this shouldn’t have been the second single from Pretzel anyway. In fact, this and the similar-sounding “Black Friday” are my two least favorite Steely Dan singles.
