This story starts with Buffalo Springfield, not CSN. Along with a young Neil Young, Stills led the band through several successful elpees and wrote their most popular song, "For What It's Worth." (But then CSN, right? No, little one, not yet.) Onto a Super Session with Al Kooper to build up his chops as a guitarist. (And after that?) After that the planets aligned, and Stills joined David Crosby and Graham Nash in CSN, reuniting with Young along the course. In between the on again/off again alliances, Stills released a number of solo albums, grittier than the work of Crosby and Nash, not as gritty as the work of Young. His solo fortunes faded in the late '70s (the ascendancy of punk and, later, metal), but the CSN reunions remain a profitable venture. His first album is generally regarded as his best, featuring the hit "Love The One You're With."
