Steve Miller Band
When Steve Miller was signed by Capitol back in the late '60s, it was with the idea that Miller would eventually go on to be a big star. And he did become a big star, in the mid '70s, after he got all of that psychedelic blues stuff out of his system. Not that some of the early SMB albums aren't very good (e.g., Sailor, Brave New World), but none of them packed the whallop that Fly Like An Eagle and Book of Dreams did. Here, Steve Miller and his band delivered some of the greatest rock albums of the '70s, a cross between country rock and hippy mysticism delivered in improbably tight packages. Some pointed to cleverly recycled riffs as the source of Miller's meteoric rise to rock star; whatever the reason, it wasn't long before Miller slipped back into the shadows. Abracadabra aside, his albums have been found wanting lately. In 1988, he released Born 2 B Blue under his own name.
