The Stranglers
Part of the first wave of English punk bands alongside The Clash, The Damned and all those other scary-sounding bands. The Stranglers actually sounded more like The Doors than The Sex Pistols, growing progressively more musical until, by the mid '80s, they'd blanded out like The Damned. I'm still getting my arms around them, so a better description should come with time.
