T he edited version of the A side is nothing but net, three-and-a-half minutes of verse/chorus without the instrumental passages. It’s not like the original five-minute version dragged, but there’s the expectation that a Heads single would have to be a head shorter than the original. The real treat is the B side, “Ruby Dear (Bush Mix).” The album cut was never one of my favorites, but the Bush mix is an exotic setting featuring mostly David Byrne (or so it sounds) stripped down and dressed in authentic jungle attire. Definitely worth tracking down if you’re a Heads fan who wants to hear an otherwise mediocre track vindicated by a smart remix.
