A nother wonderful video, another catchy and quirky song, and another reason to keep blowing through MTV like a wild wildfire. It’s interesting how music television changed the perception of music. Here was a song that gained terrific mindshare among television viewers, appeared often enough on the radio I suppose, and yet failed to crack the Top 20. It wasn’t just a visual phenomenon of course; “Stay Up Late” gained significant radio play and wasn’t even released as a commercial single in the US. The flip side is the movie version of “People Like Us” featuring the voice of John Goodman. This strategy was in keeping with the mix-and-match approach of True Stories’ singles (A: Heads, B: movie).
