Following the Heads’ last “official” studio album, Naked, a slimmed down Tom Tom Club returned with their first new music in five years, “Don’t Say No.” Extolling the virtues of love in New York, the song fits into the same new wave/club format as their earlier records, but without the loopy slumber-party charm. (A remixed version of the single, available on a 12-inch, improves on the original by giving it a dreamier feel and playing up Tina’s seductive vocals.) The flip side, “Devil Does Your Dog Bite?,” is a nonalbum track that gives Chris Frantz another shot at sub-Schneiderian vocals (with even worse results than “Atsababy,” incredibly). Also featured on the extended format versions is an instrumental remix of “Don’t Say No” billed as “Beats and Pieces” -- you can dance to it, if that’s your measure of worth.
