H ow this stayed on the US charts for 7 weeks is beyond me; I was bored with it after seven minutes. The 9-minute live version of “Gimme Some Lovin’” from Welcome to the Canteen is here split into two parts totalling nearly eight minutes, which means that some small part of it is still missing. Part one begins at the beginning, as Reebop Kwaku Baah’s (misspelled as “Kwaka” on this promo single) exotic rhythms and Dave Mason’s improbably tight guitar riff turn the old Spencer Davis Group nugget on its end. Part Two picks up in the middle and has the more natural ending, but neither part really stands well on its own.
