Ultravox
Ultravox started as a robotic Roxy Music (or Kraftwerk with a Keatsian heart), releasing three very good but largely unnoticed albums in the late '70s. Their fortune changed when Midge Ure replaced John Foxx and the band released Vienna. From that point forward, Ultravox' success was cemented in the UK. Ure was a more romantic singer, though still cold by contemporary standards, and their songs increasingly came under the New Romantic banner. In the '80s, Ure left the band to pursue a solo career. By the release of Revelation in 1993, only Billy Currie remained from the original quartet.
