Weather Report
Influential jazz fusion outfit led by Josef Zawinul and Wayne Shorter, a pair of Miles alums who continued to push electric (and, later, electronic) jazz into new directions. With the addition of bass player Jaco Pastorius, Weather Report reached a technical proficiency that few bands have matched. After a string of brilliant albums in the 70s, the band began to break apart, with Zawinul (and his synthesizers) assuming more control through the 80s. Heavy Weather and Black Market are must-own albums for jazz fusion aficionados.
