Aerosmith
If the Stones were sucking in the seventies, Aerosmith sucked right along with them. In the beginning ("Dream On," "Spaced"), they appeared to be a hard rock band with a mystical bent, but Toys in the Attic changed all that. "Walk This Way" defined the band's new direction: guitar riffs that boogied like nothing before them and Steven Tyler's innuendo rapido. Then the usual demons (drugs, etc.) dragged them down. Perhaps fittingly, it was "Walk This Way" that put them back on track again, when Run-DMC and the band released a rap version of the song in 1986. The following year, Permanent Vacation was released and the world was Aerosmitten anew. Me, I draw the line at the '70s, but I'm a grumpy prog fan after all.
