Big Audio Dynamite
Underappreciated and misunderstood by many (myself included), BAD brought elements of The Clash to the fore in a new way. The trouble was, those elements (repurposed anthems, beatbox rhythms) weren't what was best about The Clash, and so BAD was seen as an indulgent extension of the band's dub experimentation. In fact, the band's unique mix of rock, reggae and multimedia (Don Letts stuffed each album with a virtual library full of film dialog) is a daring and forward-thinking direction fully deserving of Jones' visionary status. Their albums take some time to appreciate, but the first few are recommended to those who refuse to wave the white flag after Combat Rock. NOTE: This is the old BAD site.
