The Cars
There was precious little to listen to on the radio until The Cars came along. They were one of the first "new wave" bands to enjoy steady rotation on the radio. Visually and musically, there was something different about them; like if Buddy Holly and The Crickets returned twenty years later as vampires. After Shake It Up, Ric Ocasek released a solo album (Beatitude), which pretty much signalled the end. Heartbeat City was a sell-out, Door To Door didn't sell at all. When Benjamin Orr passed away in 2000, it (seemingly) ended any hope of a reunion. 2011's Move Like This proved that hope (of one thing or another) springs eternal.
