Dire Straits
A prickly pear who got more cuddly with time. Although the band was initially an anomaly, nearly a novelty, they were far too talented to be ignored. Mark Knopfler's voice and remarkable lead guitar work suggested Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton and even David Gilmour rolled into one. All of their albums are well crafted and well worth owning; Making Movies and Brothers In Arms are the most popular. Both Mark and David Knopfler (who soon left the Straits) have released solo albums.
