Eagles
Truly, amid the landscape of '70s mainstream rock bands, they were Eagles among turkeys. That didn't prevent critics from gunning for them anyway, and the critics didn't prevent people from buying their music. Though they were initially labelled as a country rock band, the label soon wore off as subsequent albums showed increased sophistication. In fact, listening to their body of music, I find the Eagles align with Steely Dan more often than not.
